5 Ideas to use pastel shades for your home

While you may love your bold and pop colours, if you are looking for some peace at home, try using pastel shades that will also help you relax. Pastels have a soft, lighter side to it which is perfect to give your home a sophisticated, classy look.
Not just on the walls, you can try using pastel in different ways at your home and see the dramatic way it will change your entire home.

1 Go floral: Use light floral designs for your furnishings – whether it is curtains, rugs, sofa covers or bedsheets. If you have bright walls and want to retain their colours this is a nice way to lighten up the atmosphere and add some harmony. You can also use fresh flowers from light sprigs to lilac to pale pink or white roses kept in vases placed at various locations.

2 Use pastel in the kitchen: Whether it is for kitchen appliances or serving sets, pastel is a good choice since it will make it look stylish while also adding a little bit of warmth. A blend of light and dark shades will also give it a vintage look. Yellow is a happy colour and adding a touch of this colour on the kitchen counters will make it look bright in an instant.

3 Combine pastels with bright shades: You can use bright coloured accessories as a contrast to complement the pastel shades. So using bright and bold shades of textiles, lampshades will make the decor look interesting. Have rich wood patterns in your flooring, furniture and other interior items which will give a gorgeous glow when used with proper lighting.

4 Play with colours: Using pastels doesn’t mean you go muted all the way. If you have a spark of creativity in you, refer to the colours in the rainbow pattern and mix, blend and come up with your own version of pastel shades which add newness to the room. Don’t stick to just one pastel shade, you can blend in two to three pastel colours together and come up with an unique look.

5 Combine the new and old: When you want to go pastels, start with something small. Pick up a corner and experiment with pastel upholstery. Combine the old with the new and incorporate your new design elements with those that already exist.
